BACKGROUND. Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 requires the all Health and Social Care (HSC) Trusts, when carrying out their work, to have due regard to the need to promote Equality of opportunity between nine categories of persons, namely: between persons of different religious belief, political opinion, racial group, age, marital status or sexual orientation.
At a regional level all health and social care organisations have worked collaboratively to gather emerging themes in relation to key inequalities experienced by the nine equality categories.
