1 Exploring the Water Cycle Teacher s Guide Lesson Overview: Students will observe/investigate the movement of Water through the different stages of the Water Cycle and determine what drives this Cycle . They will discover how changes in heat energy occur throughout the Cycle . This lesson will take at least two 45-minute class periods to complete. The mini-project could be given as a homework assignment. National Standards: : The Roles of Water in Earth s Surface Processes - How do the properties and movements of Water shape Earth s surface and affect its systems? MS-ESS2-4. Develop a model to describe the cycling of Water through Earth's systems driven by energy from the sun and the force of gravity. [Clarification Statement: Emphasis is on the ways Water changes its state as it moves through the multiple pathways of the hydrologic Cycle . Examples of models can be conceptual or physical.] [Assessment Boundary: A quantitative understanding of the latent heats of vaporization and fusion is not assessed.]
