Fractions — basic ideas

and all of these fractions are exactly the same as 3 4. When dealing with fractions, we often use some special mathematical language. Instead of using the words ‘top number’ and ‘bottom number’ we use the words numeratorand denominator. So in 3 4, 3 is the numerator and 4 is the denominator: top number bottom number = numerator denominator.
