SOLID MECHANICS DYNAMICS TUTORIAL PULLEY DRIVE SYSTEMS This work covers elements of the syllabus for the Edexcel module HNC/D Mechanical Principles. On completion of this TUTORIAL you should be able to Solve problems involving speed change with pulleys. Solve power transmission problems involving the speed and torque transmission of pulley systems. Derive and explain equations governing when pulley belts slip. Derive equations governing the maximum power that can be transmitted by pulley systems and solve problems with them. Modify equations to include the affect of centrifugal force on the pulley belt . Modify equations to show the effect of using Vee section grooves. It is assumed that the student is already familiar with the following concepts. Angular and linear motion. Torque and power transmission. Coulomb friction . The basic centrifugal force equation. Higher level mathematics to include the differential calculus.
