The Dome of the Rock, or the Al Asque Mosque as it is better known by Muslims the world over, is built on the Temple Mount, itself the former site of the Jew-ish temple. This is a constant source of irritation to the Jews. Daily Jews approach the Western Wall of the ancient temple to pray for the glory of Israel to return. Christians look to Jerusalem as the place Jesus ministered, was crucified, and resurrected from the dead.
