Appendix D. Immigrant and Nonimmigrant Visa Symbols The following Symbols were used during Fiscal Year 2000 in issuing visas to immigrants and nonimmigrants proceeding to the United States. Unless otherwise stated, the section of law cited refers to the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended. Visa Symbol Class Section of Law Immigrants Immediate Relatives IR 1 Spouse of citizen 201(b). IR 2 Child of citizen 201(b). IR 3 Orphan adopted abroad by citizen 201(b). IR 4 Orphan to be adopted in the United States by citizen 201(b). IR 5 Parent of citizen at least 2l years of age 201(b). CR 1 Spouse of citizen (conditional status) 201(b) & 216. CR 2 Child of citizen (conditional status) 201(b) & 216. IW 1 Certain spouses of deceased citizens 201(b). IW 2 Child of IW 1 201(b). IB 1 Self-petition spouse of citizen 204(a)(1)(A)(iii).
