In an attempt to gather data to enable the researchers to answer the research problem, the present study adopted the descriptive survey design since it was all about people s perceptions on successes and problems in ECD. Questionnaires and interviews were used to gather data from the respondents. Document analysis was used as a source of evidence to substantiate the claims on the statistics on drop out and retention rates.

Assessing the benefits and challenges of Early Childhood Education in schools is a worthwhile undertaking so as to ascertain the effects and impediments of the infant programme. While follow up studies on the efficacy of ECD education have been carried out elsewhere, further studies need to be
