BASIC ADVOCACY SKILLS The purpose of this section of the web site is to describe some of the BASIC SKILLS and knowledge that you will need to be able to advocate effectively on behalf of your child. Learning to communicate effectively with teachers and other school personnel is one of the best ways to ensure that your child s school is creating a good learning environment for your child, and to ensure that your child s school is providing your child with the services or programs that he or she needs to succeed in school. Not everyone starts out by being a good advocate. Many parents and guardians have faced challenges in getting their child s health and education needs met.
