High silicon Iron Introduction High silicon iron has been serving the chemical process and related industries for over 85 years. The alloy's resistance to such a wide variety of corrosive chemicals has been claimed by many to be unmatched by any other commercially available metal or alloy. However, the single most important use of the high silicon iron alloy immediately after its discovery and to this day is in sulfuric acid applications. Though produced only as castings, Duriron and its modifications, Durichlor 51M. and Superchlor 77, are available in many forms of standard engineered equip- ment, including pumps, pump sleeves, ejectors, jets, pipe, fittings, anodes, strainers, and tank outlets.
