Bureau of Automotive Repair SUNSETREVIEWDECEMBER 2017 17-232 Bureau OF Automotive Repair (BAR) BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND OVERVIEW OF THE CURRENT REGULATORY PROGRAM As of December 1, 2017 Section 1 Background and Description of the Bureau and Regulated Profession Provide a short explanation of the history and function of the Bureau . Describe the occupations/profession that are licensed and/or regulated by the Bureau (Practice Acts vs. Title Acts). In 1972, the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) was established within the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) following enactment of the Automotive Repair Act (Act) (Senate Bill (SB) 51, Beilenson, Chapter 1578, Statutes of 1971), Business and Professions Code, Chapter , Section 9880, et seq. The Act mandated a statewide Automotive Repair consumer protection program, including the requirement that Automotive Repair Dealers (ARDs)1 be registered and regulated by BAR.
Bureau of Automotive Repair: Sunset Review Report 2017 2 districts, the ARB offers consumers who retire their vehicle an EFMP voucher worth up to $2,500 toward the purchase of a newer, cleaner vehicle.
