Chapter 1 introduction to knowledge DISCOVERYIN DATABASESOded MaimonDepartment of Industrial EngineeringTel-Aviv RokachDepartment of Industrial EngineeringTel-Aviv discovery in Databases(KDD) is an automatic, exploratoryanalysis and modeling of large data repositories. KDD is the organized processof identifying valid, novel, useful, and understandable patterns from large andcomplex data Mining(DM) is the core of the KDD process, involv-ing the inferring of algorithms that explore the data, develop the model anddiscover previously unknown patterns. The model is used for understandingphenomena from the data, analysis and accessibility and abundance of data today makes KNOWLEDGE discoveryand Data Mining a matter of considerable importance and necessity.
