Measuring Student Cognitive Engagement When Using Technology 36 CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH design , data collection , AND analysis procedures Overview The purpose of this explanatory-sequential mixed methods study was to assess the impact of the IPI-T process on technology use and student cognitive engagement. The goal was to implement all strategies, including faculty collaborative study sessions four times per year to support teacher implementation of new technology to increase higher-order, deeper thinking by students and increase student use of technology. The impact was measured by comparing IPI-T data codes of those faculty that participate in the faculty collaborative study sessions with baseline data prior to the implementation of the faculty collaborative study sessions as well as participant responses from a web-based questionnaire created by the researcher.
