While CNR fans and modelerscan be assumed to be fairlyfamiliar with the variousmonograms that have beenapplied over the years to therailway s Rolling Stock , it is time todrill a bit deeper on the topic. The first question to get out of the wayis why do I insistent upon calling them Monograms or crests , as opposed to heralds , symbols , or logos ? The rea-son is simple: that is what the CNR con-sistently called these graphic elements inthe specification drawings that we havebeen able to locate.
