CPT Evaluation and Management (E/M) Office or Other Outpatient (99202-99215) and Prolonged Services (99354, 99355, 99356, 99417) code and Guideline Changes This document includes the following CPT E/M Changes , effective January 1, 2021: E/M Introductory guidelines related to Office or Other Outpatient Codes 99202-99215 Revised Office or Other Outpatient E/M codes 99202-99215 In addition, this document has been updated to reflect technical corrections to the E/M guidelines : were posted on March 9, 2021 and effective January 1, 2021: Medical decision making is revised in the following ways: o Clarifying when reporting a test that is considered, but not selected after shared decision making. o Providing a definition of Analyzed for reporting tests in the data column. o Clarifying the definition of a unique test. o Clarifying what is meant by discussion between physicians, and other qualified health care professionals and patients.
When time is used for reporting E/M services codes, the time defined in the service descriptors is used for selecting the appropriate level of services.
