Commentary ( sermon notes ) Romans Chapter 8 Matthew Janzen What the Law Could Not Do Romans 8 - Pt .1 Text: Romans 8:1-8 I. Introduction A. What we are going to do today is begin to walk through some chapters in the book of Romans . B. We will encounter themes in these chapters; themes like faith, grace, law, spirit, flesh, predestination, Israel, the Gentiles, and so on. C. To begin with I want you to know that Paul wrote this epistle (according to Romans 1:1) to the saints who were dwelling in Rome - those people who believed in the only true God and had placed their faith in His Son Yeshua. This is why Paul begins his letter in Romans 1:7 saying "Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah." 1. Sometimes today we think about the concept of "church" and we think it means a building or a pretty large building.
