Paradoxically, many writers I know think of themselves as practitioners of nonviolence, people who believe in conflict-resolution. I happen to be one of these writers. But I also know that, to resolve conflict, one must first understand conflict and how and why it happens. But because conflicts are complex, it takes a lifetime of study to begin to understand why they happen, and even then you re often powerless to change them.
