by metallography and hardness measurement. In dilatometry the test sample (Fig. 1) is austenitised in a specially designed furnace (Fig. 2) and then controlled cooled. Sample dilation is measured by dial gauge/sensor. Slowest cooling is controlled by furnace cooling but higher cooling rate can be controlled by gas quenching. 3
