Enhancing Person-centred Care Key Message Person-centred care is providing care that is responsive to individual personal preferences, needs and values and assuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions. Person-centred care is one of the 3 core tenets of care in NHS Scotland where we strive to deliver Person-centred , safe and effective care to all. It is also an important part of the Government's agenda with the recent publication of the Patient Rights (Scotland) Act 2011. Person-centred care is concerned with empowering staff to cut through the systems and processes and focus on the needs of the patients. It focuses on making the patient experience better- making sure that the patient has everything they need to negotiate their current episode of care.
