THE REGULATORY reform ( fire safety ) ORDER STATEMENT BY THE OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTERINTRODUCTION1. This STATEMENT is laid before Parliament in accordance with section 6 ofthe REGULATORY reform Act 2001 ("the 2001 Act") together with the draft ofthe REGULATORY reform ( fire safety ) Order 2004 ("the draft Order") whichis proposed to be made under section 1 of that Act. The purpose of thedraft Order is to reform the law relating to general fire safety in non-domestic premises. 2. The aim of the proposed reform is to reduce burdens on business that arecaused by the existence of multiple, overlapping general fire safetyregimes and consequently overlap of the responsibilities of enforcingauthorities.
