GENERAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM OF THE CITY OF DETROIT (GRS) EDUCATION POLICY Adopted: March 31, 2010 I. PURPOSE. The Board of Trustees of the GENERAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM of the City of Detroit (the Board) recognizes and affirms the importance of education to the success of fulfilling its constitutional and statutory fiduciary duty to prudently administer the RETIREMENT SYSTEM for the exclusive benefit of the members and their beneficiaries as set forth below. Section 13 of Michigan Public Act 314 of 1965, as amended, mandates that the Board and other fiduciaries of the fund discharge their duties with care, skill, prudence, and diligence under the circumstances then prevailing that a prudent person acting in a like capacity and familiar with such matters would use in the conduct of an enterprise of a like character and with like aims; and by diversifying the investments of the RETIREMENT SYSTEM so as to minimize the risk of large losses, unless under the circumstances it is clearly prudent not to do so.
