ACCELERATED DEPRECIATION The practice of depreciating an asset more in earlier than in later years. This allows a company to reduce its tax payments, improving cash-flow during the early years of an asset s use. ACCRUAL An accounting method where expense incurred and income earned for a given fiscal year are shown in the books even though they may not have been paid or received in that year. A prime example in aviation is the (often optional) practice of accruing for major maintenance each year.
