Glossary of Financial Terms William Gibson 1 Rev. 03/09/04 This Glossary contains definitions of nearly 200 Accounting, Financing, and Investing Terms commontly used in aviation finance. ACCELERATED DEPRECIATION The practice of depreciating an asset more in earlier than in later years. This allows a company to reduce its tax payments, improving cash-flow during the early years of an asset s use. ACCRUAL An accounting method where expense incurred and income earned for a given fiscal year are shown in the books even though they may not have been paid or received in that year. A prime example in aviation is the (often optional) practice of accruing for major maintenance each year.
