The Newsletter Graeagle Community Church September 2018 The Overwhelming Grace of God That Still Awaits T'was grace that brought me safe thus far And grace will lead me home Amazing Grace While studying the book of Ephesians recently with our weekly men s Bible study, a familiar verse struck me in a new and fresh way that caused me to consider something I rarely ponder. In chapter 2, Paul explains the magnificent truth of God s grace and how it has been applied to us in Christ Jesus. He describes how we as individuals have been transformed by the power of God in the gospel. Previously liv-ing as spiritually dead in our sins, God has made us alive together with Christ (2:1-5). Furthermore, just as Jesus was raised from death to life, and then ascended into heaven where he now rules and reigns from his throne of glory, Paul argues that we too have been raised with him and are also seated with him in the heavenly realms (2:6). Then, in the next verse, Paul says something startling.

he implication that knowing the gospel truths should lead to a rejoicing in my suffering that is on par with my rejoicing in glory is, in itself, potentially a burdensome truth (cf. 8:28).
