GRO Registration District Book
GRO Registration District Book Cover Note The District book can be used to assist in the tracing of Registration events in England & Wales from the year 1837 onwards; providing a number / number & letter code for each Registration District for a specific year set. This number / number & letter combination relates to a microfilm tape held by GRO where the corresponding districts Registration entries are housed and can be used when applying for a certificate as part of a quoted reference relating to a particular entry. The District Book also provides information on abolished districts and where those records are now held. Districts that have been abolished prior to 1997 will none-the-less have a District number in the "1997 to 2001" column. This does not mean that the District has been re-established, only that the records from the historic District can now be found in the "new" District .
