GUIDELINES FOR home AND HOSPITAL isolation OF infectious tuberculosis PATIENTSa,bPatient Characteristics at DiagnosisHospitalized under AII and being released to:Discharge Criteria for Release from AII for Adults and Children with Pulmonary DiseaseAFB smear positiveNAA test positivePatient is suspected of having active TB General hospitalization Outpatient congregate setting home or setting with high-risk contacts1) Received the standard four drug regimen for at least 2 weeks if original AFB smear positive OR is on therapy for 5-7 days if original AFB smear was negative; AND2) Demonstrates clinical improvement and adherence to DOT; AND3) Three consecutive negative AFB smears collected at least 8 hours apart with at least 1 early morning specimen; AND4) No risk factors for drug smear negative, TB is not suspected NAA test is negative and/or another diagnosis is likely General hospitalization Returning to school Returning to work Use of public transportation1) Three consecutive negative AFB smears collected at least 8 hours apart with at least 1 early morning specimen; AND2) TB is not likely and another diagnosis has been smear negative AND TB is suspected or confirmed through NAA testingReturn to normal activities including: General hospitalization Returning to school Returning to work Use of public transportation 1) Received the standard four drug regimen for at least 5-7 days; AND2) Demonstrates
