The physical examination of sexual assault VICTIMS must be thorough; it will inevitably beintrusive and time consuming. In the interest of avoiding multiple examinations and further distressfor the patient, the medical examination and forensic evidence collection should, when possible,occur simultaneously.
Men need to be informed about, and offered, a HIV test and the option of post-exposure prophylaxis, if available.
