Health Service Delivery Profile National context Demographics and Health situation In 2011, Australia had a population of million people; the median age was 37 years and is projected to increase to between 38 and 4 years in 2026. The majority (64%) live in the seven state capital cities. Approximately of the population are Indigenous and 25% of the population are born overseas, with close to 79% of the population speaking only English at home.
