Founded on January 21, 1869, the Sisterhood is one of the oldest women s organizations in North America. It was established at Iowa Wesleyan University, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, by seven young college women who wanted to perpetuate their friendship. quickly changed from a campus college sorority to a city organization. Today more than 225,ooo women are active members in chapters founded throughout each of the fifty United States, six of the Canadian provinces and the District of Columbia.
