The goal of the clinical management of all forms of diabetes is to controlmetabolic abnormalities in order to prevent acute (hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia) andlong-term complications (retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy and cardiovasculardisease) without negatively impacting on quality of life (3).
