Identification of cations and anions - PMT
Anions – Group 7 (halide ions) or OH – , CO 3 2– , SO 4 2– Test for hydroxide ions: aqueous solution 1. Test a 1 cm depth of solution in a test tube with red litmus paper or universal indicator paper. 2. Record your observations. Dispose of the test tube contents. 3. Sodium hydroxide will turn damp red litmus paper blue.

doctortang.comLab #13: Qualitative Analysis of Cations and Anions Objectives: 1. To understand the rationale and the procedure behind the separation for various cations and anions. 2. To perform qualitative analysis of two unknown solutions that contain various ions (cations and anions) and positively identify these ions using established schemes. Materials:
Cations and Anions - An Introduction to Chemistry
preparatorychemistry.com• Some anions and cations contain more than one atom. • Polyatomic ion = a charge collection of atoms held together by covalent bonds • For example, it is possible for a nitrogen atom to form covalent bonds to four hydrogen atoms, but to make this possible the nitrogen atom has to lose an electron, giving the collection of atoms a plus one
