It may include a wide variety of situations such as exchanges inrestaurants and stores, conversations with friends, reading street signs and newspapers, as well asclassroom activities, or it may be very sparse, including only language classroom activities and afew of the learning environment, the learner s goal is mastery of the target language . Thelearner begins the task of learning a second language from point zero (or close to it) and, throughthe steady accumulation of the mastered entities of the target language , eventually amasses them inquantities sufficient to constitute a particular level of proficiency (Dulay, Burt & Krashen, 1982and Ellis, 1984).
