1 JCP&L Net MeteringFrequently Asked QuestionsWhat is Net Metering ?A residential or small commercial customer (non-residential electrical customers with lessthan 10 megawatts (MW) of peak demand) that generates electricity on the customer side ofthe meter is considered a customer-generator . In New Jersey, net Metering is a meteringoption that:1) Credits customer-generators at the full retail rate for each kilowatt-hour producedby a Class 1 renewable energy system installed on the customer-generator s side of theelectric revenue meter, up to the total amount of electricity used by that customer during anannualized period; and2) Compensates the customer-generator at the end of the annualized period for anyremaining credits, at a rate equal to the supplier/provider s avoided cost of wholesale New Jersey, all Electric Distribution Companies and suppliers/providers offer net meteringto their residential and small commercial customers that generate electricity, on thecustomer s side of the meter, using Class 1 renewable energy sources, provided that thegenerating capacity of the customer-generator s facility does not exceed 2 MW, and does notexceed the customer s peak electric does the Net Meter work?
