Davis This study investigates the source and MEANING of the metaphor JESUS IS LIGHT in the GOSPEL of John (GJohn) utilizing Conceptual metaphor theory . It argues that JESUS IS LIGHT in GJohn is a complex metaphor which is deeply rooted in the Old Testament metaphor THE PRESENCE OF GOD IS LIGHT and its derivative metaphor THE AGENT OF SALVATION IS LIGHT . Many of the elements of these original metaphors are explicitly or implicitly mapped onto JESUS , showing him to be a personal revelation of God himself to mankind.
