Key Process Safety Performance Indicators
Do you have the right information to enable you tomake business decisions that improve the control ofmajor hazard risks?You will recognise that good leadership is based on makingbusiness decisions in the full knowledge of the factors thatwill be lead to a successful outcome and deliver the intendedbenefits. In the past, information on Safety Performance hasrelied on factors such as lost time incident rates. Whilst thisis a good indicator of how well personal injury accidents arebeing managed, it is a poor indicator of how well majorhazard risks are being controlled. Companies with exemplarypersonal injury incident rates have in the past sufferedcatastrophic failure in the containment of major hazards, withdevastating consequences for the plant, employees, theenvironment and company work on developing Process Safety performanceindicators by the Health and Safety Executive and the UKChemical Industries Association has changed the way thatinformation on major hazard risks can be collected andutilised.
