LANGDON county is justly proud osthe long roll of eminent men whohave from time to time lived withinher borders. These may naturally bedivided into several groups. First,those who were born here and livedmost os their lives elsewhere, likeRobert Fulton, David Ramsey, theSmith brothers, John Blair Smith andSamuel Stanhope Smith, and LlndleyMurray; second, such as wereborn elsewhere and came andlived their lives among us, likeJames Buchanan and ThaddeusStevens; and, thirdly, men who cameto us from other places, lived here fora time and then took their these we may mentionBenjamin West, the artist, andLangdon cheves , orator and states-man.
