IntroductionMalaysia is a federal constitutional monarchy in Southeast Asia consisting of 13 states and three federal territories, separated by the South China Sea into two regions: Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo s East Malaysia . Peninsular Malaysia shares a land and maritime border with Thailand and maritime borders with Singapore, Viet Nam, and Indonesia.
Historical energy demand data were taken from the National Energy Balance published by the Energy Commission of Malaysia. Economic indicators used in energy modelling such as GDP were taken from the World Bank’s World Development Indicators. Energy modelling involved estimating final energy consumption and the corresponding primary energy supply.
