Short-term oral corticosteroids (30 mg daily for a week) do not suppress skin testing.8 There is a difference of opinion about the effects of long-term or relatively high-dose steroids, i.e. greater than 20 mg of prednisone per day, on the suppression of immediate skin tests.9, 10 Topical glucocorticosteroids can block the histamine response.
