Vascular Products Medicare C- code List for Hospital Outpatient Device Reporting Since January 1, 2005, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has required hospitals to include device category Codes (C- Codes ) on hospital outpatient claims for device This requirement will continue in 2007. CMS has developed a set of edits that have been implemented into the Outpatient code Editor (OCE) to ensure that certain procedure Codes are accompanied by an associated device category code . C- Codes have been required for reporting all applicable devices since January 1, 2005; however, the edits did not go into effect until April 1, 2005. These edits apply at the procedure code level rather than the APC level. The edits, effective April 1, 2005, apply to a subset of device-dependent APCs and their corresponding C- Codes (see Table 1). CMS has expanded this list since April of 2005, and intends to continue doing so in the future. Updates to the edits, including implementation date, are posted on the CMS website ( ) as well as in CMS Medlearn Matters articles ( ).
