Intended UseIn vitro diagnostic reagents for the quantitative determination ofMicroalbumin (MAU) in urine by means of particle-enhancedturbidimetric immunoassay in clinical chemistry albumin excretion detectable only bysensitive immunoassay (microalbuminuria) has beenused for some years as a predictor of incipient nephropathyand cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients. Microalburninuriahas also been associated with hhhypertension and increased riskof cardiovascular disease in non-diabetic patients. Microalbuininuriaoccurs in response to acute inflammatory conditions such asischaemia, trauma, and termal injury, surgery, pancreatitis, andinflammatory bowel disease. In many ofthese conditions albumin excretion increases within minutes orhours of the initiating stimulus and only last for 24 to 72 h. Thedegree ofmicroalburninuria is proportional to the severity of the inflammatoryinsult, is predictive of outcome, and is not associated with anyotherfeatures of renal impairment.
