Chapter 4 Minimization of Boolean Functions We now continue our study of Boolean circuits to consider the possibility that there might be more than one implementation of a specific Boolean function. We are particularly focused on the idea of simplifying a Boolean function in the sense of reducing the number of basic logic gates (NOT, AND, and OR gates) required to implement the function. There are a number of methods for simplifying Boolean expressions: algebraic, Karnaugh maps, and Quine-McCluskey being the more popular. We have already discussed algebraic simplification in an unstructured way.
