THE Minimum Wages ACT, 1948 ACT NO. 11 OF 1948 1* [15th March, 1948.] An Act to provide for fixing Minimum rates of Wages in certain employments. WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for fixing Minimum rates of Wages in certain employments; It is hereby enacted as follows:-- 1. Short title and extent. 1. Short title and (1) This Act may be called the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. (2) It extends to the whole of India 2**. 2. Interpretation. 2. In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject context,-- 3*[(a) "adolescent" means a person who has completed his fourteenth year of age but has not completed his eighteenth year; (aa) "adult" means a person who has completed his eighteenth year of age;] (b) "appropriate Government" means,-- (i) in relation to any scheduled employm
