MINISTRY OF LABOUR THE MINES rules , 1955 1 SRO. 1421 dated 2nd July, 1955 In exercise of the powers conferred by section 58 of the MINES Act, 1952 (35 of 1952), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules the same having been previously published as required by sub- section (1) of section 59 of the Act, namely: CHAPTER - I PRELIMINARY 1. Short title and applications :- (1) These rules may be called the MINES rules , 1955 . (2) Except as otherwise expressly provided, the rules shall apply to every mine of whatever description to which the Act applies. 2. Definitions _ In these rules , unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context - a) the Act means the MINES Act, 1952 (35 of 1952): b) court of inquiry means a court of inquiry appointed under section 24 of the Act; c) Form means a form as given in the First Schedule; d) section means a section of the Act: e) Schedule means a schedule appended to these rules ; f) Manager includes Mine Superintendent who is appointed by the owner or agent of a mine under section 17 of the Act and as such, responsible for the control, management, supervision and direction of a mine; g) Certifying surgeon means a qualified medical practitioner ppointed to be a certifyi
