Modeling and Guided Practice Modeling and Guided Practice are two critical elements to a successful lesson. Modeling provides students a demonstration of a desired behavior or outcome. Successful Modeling ideally leads a student to the same behavior. When planning to include Modeling in a lesson, be sure to: Break down concepts or skills into learnable parts Clearly describe and model the concept or skill Model to address various types of learners Think aloud as you model Model examples and non-examples when possible Include student interaction when possible Remember to check for student understanding After Modeling a concept or skill in a lesson, assign the students to perform a Guided Practice .
Guided practice is an opportunity for a student to attempt a task in a safe environment, under direct supervision. It also allows for immediate comment and feedback
