In December 2016, the Navy released a Force - Structure goal that calls for achieving and maintaining a fleet of 355 ships of certain types and numbers.

355-Ship Fleet Is a Goal to Be Attained in the Future The 355-ship fleet is a goal to be attained in the future. As shown in Table G-1, the actual size of the Navy in recent years has generally been between 270 and 300 ships. Increasing the numerical size of the Navy from 300 ships to 355 would equate to an increase of about 18%.
