Net zero PlanStage 1: 2020 2030 Department of Planning, Industry and zero plan Stage 1: 2020 2030 The NSW Government is committed to taking decisive and responsible action on climate change. That s why we ve already set a goal of net zero emissions by 2050 and today, we re releasing this net zero plan Stage 1: 2020 2030 to fast-track emissions reduction over the next decade and prepare the State to take further action in the decades to follow. Getting to net zero will not be easy. I firmly believe that action on climate change must be grounded in science and economics not ideology. Just as it is unacceptable to ignore the challenge posed by climate change, it is also unacceptable to call for an end to the modern way of life. Emissions reduction must enhance, not undermine, the prosperity and quality of life enjoyed by the people of New South Wales. This plan recognises that, in parts of our economy, low emissions technologies are becoming a commercially viable alternative to the traditional ways of doing things.

families and individuals are already taking action and there is every reason to think that action will grow. New opportunities, inconceivable today, will emerge over the next decade. For these reasons, this Plan should not be seen as the final word on emissions reduction between 2020 and 2030, but a foundation on which we will build.
