This is the lowest level for initial claims since December 6, 1969 when it was 202,000. The previous week's level was revised down by 2,000 from 222,000 to 220,000. The 4-week moving average was 220,500, a decrease of 5,000 from the previous week's revised average. This is the lowest level for this average since December 27, 1969 when it was 219,750.

Assistance benefits and 40 states reported 117,721 continued claims for Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending December 11 were in Alaska (3.1), California (2.7), Puerto
