This article addresses this gap and outlines what nurses need to know about a nephrostomy and its management . What is a nephrostomy?A nephrostomy tube is a narrow-gauge pig-tail drain inserted into the renal pelvis for the purpose of draining urine (Fig 1).
Good wound-site care is essential to avoid exit-site infection, and should include keeping the drain site clean and dry.
