Introduction Work by the European Commission s Joint Research Centre (Weiss et al, 2011 & 2012) has indicated that real-world emissions of light-duty vehicles may be significantly greater than results obtained over the Type Approval test, particularly for NOx emissions from diesel vehicles. As a result of this, and per Regulation (EC) No. 715/2007, the European Commission has stated (CARS 2020 Action Plan, 2012) their intention to introduce an additional Type Approval test procedure for the measurement of Real Driving Emissions (RDE).
