Part 3 The magistrates selection process Part 3 The magistrates selection process Guiding principles The principles below apply to the handling of all applications to the magistracy: applications should be handled fairly, consistently and expeditiously; candidates must be assessed solely on merit against the six key qualities no other factors may be taken into account; candidates should be treated with courtesy and respect; candidates must not be excluded from the selection process on the basis of disability; and information about an individual gained through the selection process is confidential. (This point should be stressed at the start of all interviews.)
