Police powers and procedures, England and Wales, year ending 31 March 2020 Second Edition Key results Stop and search In the year ending March 2020, there were: - 558,973 stop and searches conducted under section 1 PACE (and associated legislation), an increase of 52% compared with the previous year, in which there were 366,912 searches (excluding Greater Manchester Police ) - Of these, 73,423 led to an arrest, an increase of 27% on the previous year. - Despite the increase in the volume of arrests following a section 1 PACE stop and search, the arrest rate fell from 16% to 13% compared with the previous year.
