PPG 5 page 1 PPG5 October 2007 Environment Alliance - working togetherPollution Prevention GuidelinesWorks and maintenance in or near water: PPG5 These Guidelines are produced jointly by the Environment Agency for England and Wales, the Environment and Heritage Service for Northern Ireland and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, referred to here as we or Guidelines cover construction and maintenance works in, near or liable to affect surface waters and groundwaters. Surface waters include rivers, streams/burns, dry ditches, lakes/lochs, loughs, reservoirs, ponds, canals, estuaries and coastal waters. Groundwater is all water below the surface of the ground in the saturation zone and in direct contact with the ground or should consider these Guidelines on a site by site basis, and we advise you to consult us for help. You can find contact details at the end of these Prevention Guidelines (PPGs) are based on relevant legislation and good practice. They will help you manage your environmental responsibilities and protect the these Guidelines doesn t remove your responsibility to comply with the law and prevent Pollution .
